Our Curriculum

Our fundamental belief is that all students are entitled to an individually tailored and holistic education that is broad and balanced and prepares them for the next stage of their education, employment or training. We therefore encourage students to sit exams as soon as they are ready, and offer a wide range of additional qualifications and extra-curricular enrichment to provide a rounded learning experience.

At Key Stage 3, we place great emphasis on giving all students a firm grounding in the core subject areas of English, maths and science. Pupils are streamed by ability in their classes, and further setting takes place in English, maths and science so that everyone receives appropriately tailored tuition. 

At Key Stage 4, we provide an even more personalised curriculum which is geared towards students’ individual aptitudes and skills. The curriculum in each pathway consists of the core subjects and a range of choices that allow pupils to progress on to courses at Key Stage 5. As a unique feature of our curriculum, we encourage pupils to sit exams when they are ready for them and many will finish before Year 11. Those that achieve high grades then have the opportunity to pursue additional courses or higher study in a wide range of subjects.

The primary aim of our Sixth Form is to prepare our pupils for the transition from school to university. Pupils have a wide variety of choice with most pupils taking 4 AS – Levels in Year 12 followed by 3 A – Levels in Year 13 and the vast majority of our students go on to gain places at leading universities.
